I usually have a good idea of what is central to the image, but not necessarily what is essential, especially negative space.  So for a while I would compose, zoom out (or move back a bit) and shoot.  Now I am in the habit of positioning the camera fully intending to crop later.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Sometimes the crop is a bit extreme for a 6MP sensor, but I&#039;ve had fewer regrets this way.&lt;/p&gt;
